Oblivion

The legendary Oblivion is a heart-stopping plummet into a black hole.

This thrilling ride was the world’s very first vertical drop roller coaster when it opened in 1998, and it continues to wow guests to the Alton Towers Resort to this day.

Oblivion’s incredible plunge is likely to make your jaw drop upon first seeing the ride. Once on board, you'll be taken up the lift hill, and hung over the edge, before you drop over 180 feet at a force of over 4.5 Gs.

This is one of the rides that made the Alton Towers Resort famous - Oblivion tests visitors to their breaking point. Regular visitors to Alton Towers still say that this ride is scarier than any other at the famous theme park.

Air

Take to the skies around the Alton Towers Resort with the amazing Air - sponsored by Cadbury's Heroes.

This rollercoaster was one of the first 'flying coasters' to be built in the world. First opening in 2002, you'll get strapped in and 'assume the position' - which means you'll be riding this rollercoaster lying down, flying like Superman.

Air is still the only ride of its type in the UK, offering a quite unique experience that is set to wow guests to Alton Towers. It has a smooth and graceful flight, swooping close to the ground and then back into the skies.

This rollercoaster came at a whopping cost of £12 million, whilst it's also the only flying coaster to feature a half zero G roll - that's some serious 'Air time'!

Air is one of the most popular rides at the Alton Towers Resort, so it's often worth making it one of your first port of calls to avoid queue time. There's also a special queue for riding at the very front of the train - this is highly recommended, and worth the extra wait. You won't find an experience much closer to actually flying than when you ride on the front of Air!

Nemesis

Ride through a post apocalyptic landscape aboard Nemesis - Alton Towers Resort's suspended rollercoaster adventure.

Nemesis is one of the world's top rollercoaster rides, boasting a recent 3rd place in the Mitch Hawker steel roller coaster poll, which was conducted by some of the world's foremost enthusiasts.

Riding this rollercoaster is one seriously intense experience. You'll speed past a giant alien creature, which has been restrained in a massive valley, and swoop down rivers of blood - the theming alone is not for the feint of heart!

Suspended seats force the carriage to swing to and fro along the winding track both over and underground. Your legs fly out on the loops and bends as Nemesis hammers along the track, leaving you screaming at the force of 4Gs pounding on your body.

Rita

Experience a thrill like no other. Rita launches out of the blocks at an incredible 0-100kph in just 2.5 seconds, pushing you through a whopping 4.7 G Force.

Rita is one of Alton Towers Resort's newer rollercoasters, having been added to the world famous collection in 2005. It's a short ride - but one brimming with rip roaring intensity, not to mention that its very, very fast!

Once strapped into the carriage you'll have to leave your breath and stomach at the station as you are fired towards the first turn. There's plenty of air time on the first hill, and then you'll drop back down towards the Corkscrew station not too far away from the people in the queue lines.

You'll then find yourself speeding over the second air time hill and take a tight turn within the same area as you took the first. After this you'll go up the final hill, and into a few sets of breaks, finally coming to rest at the station. You might just be able to catch your breath!
